Meet Dr. Kai – The Heart Behind KinFolk
KinFolk is more than just a clinic—it’s a love letter to the community, written by none other than Rakiyah Jones, DNP, FNP-BC… or as his patients lovingly call him, Dr. Kai. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Dr. Kai is the kind of provider who brings brains, heart, and just the right dose of humor to every visit. His mission? To make healthcare feel less like a chore and more like a conversation with someone who gets it.
From the start, Dr. Kai dreamed of making quality, compassionate care accessible to everyone—insured or not. That dream turned into KinFolk Family Health, where culturally competent care and community connection are always at the center evolving into KinFolk Health 360°.
With degrees and certifications that could fill a CVS receipt, Dr. Kai is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University School of Nursing, where he also earned his master’s in Family Nurse Practitioner and a doctorate in Nursing Practice. He didn’t stop there—he scooped up a post-master’s certificate in adult-gerontology and acute care from the University of Pennsylvania, and later went on to complete medical school at St. George’s University. (We weren’t kidding about the receipts.)
Currently completing residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. Kai somehow still makes time to serve his patients with warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication. Oh—and did we mention he’s also a proud U.S. Army Nurse Corps veteran…because of course he is.
Dr. Kai’s care is rooted in respect, equity, and whole-person healing. He’s deeply committed to empowering patients with knowledge, support, and a space where they feel seen, heard, and celebrated.
